Global figures show a startling economic disparity with women losing jobs at almost twice the rate of men and leaving 47 million more women and girls below the poverty line. While girls across the world tend to outperform boys in reading and writing skills, they continue to be under-represented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
‘Tech up girls’ is a social training programme targeted to empower women from ages 16 to 26, SSCE graduates as well as university graduates and university students with digital skills. The programme will help them learn, earn and work. The course contains a continuous career development module, social media skills module and web development skills module. It is a four weeks intensive course.
The scope of the programme is to train up to 5000 women in the next three years, 500 per quarter. Out of this 500, they will be split into 10 smaller groups with no more than 50 participants where each of them will be coached by a mentor in technology on how to navigate the path and go further in the technology space.
The course will be taken fully online via a mobile app.
The actual cost for this type of training is N 150,000.00 (One hundred and fifty thousand naira only) per person, however it has been brought down to N5,000.00 (Five thousand naira only) which is the commitment fee.
